18-Year-Old Projected to Be Top Pick in 2023 NHL Draft

Michkov Signs Three-Year, Entry-Level Contract

WEB NASHVILLE -- Matvei Michkov sat on a podium in a Philadelphia Flyers hat and jersey, a broad smile on his face. The 18-year-old Russian forward had just signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Flyers, making him the first player from his country to be drafted by the team.

Michkov is considered one of the top prospects in the 2023 NHL Draft, and he is projected to be a top-five pick. He is a skilled skater with a quick release and a knack for scoring goals. In 65 games with SKA St. Petersburg in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) this season, Michkov had 25 goals and 23 assists.

"We are very excited to have Matvei join our organization," said Flyers general manager Chuck Fletcher. "He is a special player with a lot of potential. We believe he has the ability to be a star in the NHL."

Michkov is expected to join the Flyers for their training camp in September. He will likely start the season with the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, but he could see some time with the Flyers later in the season.
