Early Life

Birth and Family

Mark Elliot Zuckerberg was born in White Plains, New York on May 14, 1984. He is the fourth child of Karen and Edward Zuckerberg, and has two older sisters, Randi and Donna, and a younger sister, Arielle.

Education

Zuckerberg attended Ardsley High School in Ardsley, New York, where he excelled in mathematics and science. In 2002, he enrolled at Harvard University, where he studied computer science.

Facebook

Co-Founder and CEO

While at Harvard, Zuckerberg co-founded Facebook, which was originally called Facemash, in 2004. Facemash was a website that allowed users to rate the attractiveness of other students. The website quickly gained popularity, but it was also criticized for being insensitive and voyeuristic.

Zuckerberg and his team quickly pivoted and launched Facebook as a social networking site in 2004. The site allowed users to connect with friends and family, share photos and videos, and join groups.

Growth and Expansion

Facebook quickly became one of the most popular websites in the world. In 2012, Facebook went public, raising $16 billion in its initial public offering.

Under Zuckerberg's leadership, Facebook has acquired numerous other companies, including Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus VR. The company has also expanded into new areas, such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality.

Rebranding and Metaverse

In 2021, Facebook changed its name to Meta to reflect its focus on the metaverse, a virtual world where people can interact with each other and with digital objects.

Meta is investing heavily in the metaverse, and Zuckerberg believes that it will be the next major platform for social interaction and economic activity.

Personal Life

Zuckerberg is married to Priscilla Chan, a pediatrician and philanthropist. They have two daughters, Maxima and August.

Zuckerberg is a vegetarian and has donated billions of dollars to various philanthropic causes.
